Punta Cana, DR / Race 2

July  2008

By: Scott Stillman

Everyone asks about what Scott is doing for work.  Well, I've spent the past eight years building up my business and am not planning to change any time soon.  I'm commuting almost every day to College Station.

Scott won a trip at work to Paradisus Punta Cana, DR

The night before we left on our trip to the Dominican Republic we decided to see how much water we could put into the mothership without noticing.

Our first step was to allow our fresh water pump impellor to give up the ghost.  After several hours of trial and error we, Scott, Jennifer, and Don our neighbor,  decided that the pump, while still running was not pumping, was the culprit.  I believe the impeller gave out.  The reason I say "I Believe" is because the screws that allow access to the impellor were mysteriously stripped and will need to be drilled out.   Shitty death.  Luckily we have a backup.

We found out later that the only difference between the original and the backup was the backup puts out twice the pressure as the original.   Imagine our surprise when we found out that the water heater can blow out and dump 70 gallons with out making a noticeable noise.   Shitty death.  It's even worse when you fill up the tank again and finally notice the water coming up from the bilge.

After fixing the bilge pump and disconnecting the water heater and lowering the pressure on the fresh water pump we were able to fill the tank and have fresh water on the mother ship just in time to leave for our trip.  Shitty shitty death.

We decided to leave the water heater and fresh water pump till next weekend.

This leads me to a new section.  It's conveniently titled Shit to do.

  Paradisus Punta Cana, DR

This is the grand entrance to the resort.

How cool is that?

This is our room and the view.

Scott & Jennifer at the beach restaurant.

We went on a all day tour of the country side.  This is a typical road.

We went to a working ranch and toured the cow baby factory.

Then we went on a horse back ride of the ranch.

Drawn Together's Blah.

This is a tour of "Maria's house"  none of my pic's came out.  We watched how they made coco and coffee from scratch.

Country Side

This is a cigar factory.  We were hoping to see children chained to tables, drums thumping in the background, working 20 hours a day, but no.  There were a bunch of old men chatting, smoking, and having a good time.  What ever happened to child labor?

Race 2

Ok.  Were getting better.  Not only did we show up and go from A to B to C and back to A, we went around all the points.

For the first half of the race we were kicking ass.  Not a boat in sight.  It could have something to do with the fact that we started before everyone else.  When you are slow and stupid they give you a head start.

Look at the pretty boats as they pass us.

After a day of watching others pass us we finally passed someone.

After lots and lots of testing, we have learned that you must cover your body from head to toe in grease when doing any boat project, the starboard alternator is not charging.

We, me with tools, Jennifer with lights, and Quinn and Chanie "helping" removed the alternator.  I took it to A Alternator down the road and he tested it for free.  We like free.  The alternator is good.  The belt is good.  I believe it is a tension issue.  We have decided to put it off till next weekend.
